This piece took some
investigation to find who made it. It's old and "Jo Povi
Santa Clara" is scratched on the bottom, rather primitively.
But Schaaf's "Pottery.. Biographies" gave reference to two Jo
Povi's - Linda Askan being the other. This piece is closer
to the time frame of Kathy and Linda is part Navajo, who would
most likely not make an owl. And since Kathy started being
active before she was 10, this could explain the primitive
appearing signature. |

Kathy Silva was born in
1947 and has been active from 1953 to present (as of 2000). She
was taught by Severa Tafoya (great-grandmother) and Mary Agnes Tafoya
(mother).
